5500 เปิดตัวในปี 1957 ไปจนถึงปี 1989 จึงถูกแทนที่ด้วย ref.14000 โดยที่โมเดลนี้เป็นการสานต่อชื่อของ Air-king รุ่นแรก ทำออกมาเพื่อให้เกียรติ RAF pilots ที่รับใช้ชาติในสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง
